Restricted countries

Restricted countries are the places a prop firm will not accept traders from, because of law, sanctions, payment rules or platform limits.

What it means

Every prop firm keeps a list of countries it does not serve. Reasons include international sanctions, local rules on trading and financial products, payment processors that will not handle certain regions, and trading platforms whose license terms exclude some clients. The list differs between firms because each one has its own partners and legal advice.

The list has to be enforced, not only published. Firms check the country at checkout and again during KYC, because a trader can pass a challenge and then fail identity checks. Traders should confirm their country is accepted before paying, and firms should keep the list current as sanctions and partner terms change.

Worked example

Illustrative case: a trader in a country on a firm's restricted list buys a challenge through a VPN and passes it. At KYC, their documents show the restricted country, so the firm cannot issue a funded account. A clear list and a country check before payment would have avoided this for both sides.
