Economic calendar for prop firm traders

An economic calendar lists scheduled releases such as interest rate decisions, inflation data and jobs reports, with the time and expected impact of each. The calendar on this page is provided by TradingView and only loads from TradingView once you choose to show it.

How it works

What an economic calendar is

Governments and central banks publish data on a fixed schedule. An economic calendar lists those releases in one place: the time, the country and currency affected, how much impact the event usually has on prices, and the forecast and previous figures. When the data comes out, the actual figure is added.

High-impact releases can move prices sharply within seconds. Spreads often widen around them, and slippage can fill a stop loss well past its level.

Why news matters at a prop firm

Many prop firms have a news trading rule. It can stop you opening or closing trades within a set number of minutes of a high-impact release, or stop you holding positions through one. Some firms apply it only to a funded account, and some also during the challenge. Breaking it can cost you the profit from those trades or the account itself.

Even at firms with no news rule, a fast move on a release can take you through your daily loss limit before you can react.

What to check at your firm

  • Which events count. Some firms publish their own list of restricted events, rather than relying on a calendar's impact rating.
  • The time window. How many minutes before and after a release the rule covers.
  • Which instruments. Whether the rule covers only the currency affected, or every instrument you trade.
  • Open trades. Whether trades opened earlier must be closed before the release.

Calendars from different providers can rate the same event differently, and times shown depend on your time zone setting. Firms' rules differ, so check your own firm's rules and restricted list before you trade.

About this calendar

The calendar is provided by TradingView. Nothing loads from TradingView until you select Show calendar. Once shown, TradingView receives your IP address and this page's address and sets its own analytics cookies, listed on our cookie policy.

Worked example

Before a session, a trader opens the calendar, sets it to their own time zone and filters for high-impact events in the currencies they plan to trade. They note the time of each release, then check their firm's news trading rule to see how many minutes around it are restricted. If a restricted event falls inside their session, they plan to be flat before the window opens, or they skip that instrument until it has passed.
