Scaling plan
A scaling plan increases a funded trader's account size after they meet set conditions, such as a profit level over a period of time.
What it means
Scaling gives consistent traders a larger account without making them buy a bigger challenge. The conditions vary by firm: a profit level over a number of months, a number of rewards received, or both.
Futures firms often scale differently, by raising the maximum number of contracts a trader can hold as their profit grows, rather than the account size.
A scaling step can also change other terms, such as the reward cycle or the profit split. Firms should show exactly what changes before the step happens.
Worked example
A plan might add 25% to the account size when the trader makes 10% net profit over four months and receives at least two rewards in that time. A $100,000 account would grow to $125,000, with its loss limits recalculated on the new size.
