Payout
A payout is the money a funded trader receives as their share of the profit. Many firms call it a reward.
What it means
Payout is the word most traders search for, but many prop firms now say reward instead. Part of the reason is advertising: ad platforms treat payout language as a financial claim and review it more strictly. Whatever the name, the trader requests their share of the funded account's profit after a reward cycle, and the firm reviews the account before paying.
What to check: the minimum request amount, how long the first reward takes, which payment methods are offered, and whether the profit split applies before or after any fee is recovered. Firms should also state what can lead to a denied request, such as a rule breach found in review, and whether loss limits are recalculated after a reward.
Worked example
Illustrative numbers: a trader with a 90% profit split ends a reward cycle $4,000 in profit. After the firm reviews the account, the trader receives $3,600. If the firm refunds the challenge fee with the first reward, that amount is added on top.
